Hazelwood Man Charged With Child Abuse

HAZELWOOD, MO (KTVI)– Hazelwood police have charged a 21-year-old man with assault in a horrible case of child abuse.

Lincoln Edward Jones is charged with injuring a 4-year-old girl. She suffered head, neck, back and stomach injuries.

Police say when they arrived at the home in the 200 block of Chez Vant Drive, the child was drifting in and out of consciousness.

No word on the child’s condition.

McNair Elementary School Gets $2000 Grant From Lowe’s

HAZELWOOD, MO. (KTVI) – Lowe’s, the home improvement store has awarded McNair elementary school in Hazelwood a $2000 grant to use to fix up the school.  The grant of Lowe’s toolbox for education grant program.

McNair elementary school Principal Dr. Jen Roper says the money will be used to make improvements to the school courtyard.

Cardinals Care Names 20th Youth Field For Chris Carpenter

BERKELEY, MO. (KTVI) – The Cardinals Care Foundation named its newest youth ball field after Cards pitcher Chris Carpenter.  The City of Berkeley ended years of being without a baseball diamond, while little girls were ready to hit the mound and break old gender roles.

“It’s like back in the day when little kids used to play baseball,” said Xavier Windom, a student at Airport Elementary School.

“I want to be the pitcher,” classmate Damonte Taylor smiled.  “Because, I’m a good thrower.”

So just walking distance from the school, the Cardinals Care Foundation spent Wednesday morning naming its 20th youth ball field.  The wind had already unveiled the solar-powered scoreboard.  Cards announcer Dan McLaughlin counted down to a round of applause.

“3… 2… 1,” the crowd cheered and turned toward the outfield.  The board read, “Chris Carpenter Field”.

Possible Electrocution Death At North County Plant

NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO. (KTVI) – St. Louis County police are investigating a possible electrocution in north St. Louis County, at the St. Louis Cold Drawn, Inc. plant.  Early Wednesday morning, emergency services were called to the plant by a worker who found a co-worker slumped over an electrical box unconscious and not breathing.

The victim, 55-year-old Mach V. Nguyen of Florissant, was rushed to Christian Northeast Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Accident Cleared On I-270 At Riverview Drive

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – An accident shut down all lanes of eastbound I-270 near the Chain of Rocks bridge for two hours on Wednesday. The highway  closed at Riverview drive.  The accident has been cleared and the road is now open.

There are injuries in this accident. No information has been released about the nature of the injuries. More information will be posted as this story develops.

Ranken Jordan Pediatric Hospital Fundraisers

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KTVI) – There are two fun ways to help raise money for kids.

Lauri Tanner, the CEO of Ranken Jordan-A Pediatric Specialty Hospital, brought some stiff competition for Tim in the parking lot.

Kids and their families can have a lot of fun and raise money for this hospital at the same time.

Officer Jeff Swatek stopped Tim to make sure he knew about the golf fundraiser, too. The Maryland Heights Police Officers Association is holding their Annual Golf Tournament to benefit the Ranken Jordan Hospital Christmas party. You can take part in that event, also.

North County Native Signs Contract With St. Louis Rams

Andre Martin, a standout football player at McCluer High School, will sign a contract with the St. Louis Rams, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Martin, A Ferguson-native who starred in three sports while at McCluer (football, basketball and track and field), was just three of 26 open tryout players offered a contract by the Rams, the Post-Dispatch report said.
