HSD Middle Schools To Compete In Annual Book Battle | Arts & Culture
Title (Max 100 Characters)
Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood North, Hazelwood Northwest, Hazelwood Southeast and Hazelwood West middle schools will field teams at the Sixth Annual Area-wide Middle School Book Battle, which gives middle school students the opportunity to meet and discuss current books of interest.
A committee creates a list of 20 books that includes a variety of genres and reading levels. Questions are developed for each book and formatted so each answer is the title and author of a book on the list.
Popular books read and discussed this year include:
- “The Potato Chip Puzzles” by Eric Berlin
- “The Five Flavors of Dumb” by Antony John
- “The Latte Rebellion” by Jamila Stevenson
Last year’s entries included:
- “Tenth Grade Bleeds” by local author Heather Brewer
- “Maze Runner” by James Dashner
- “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins
Brewer and John, two New York Times best-selling young adult authors, will welcome students and sign autographs.
The event will be held at Pattonville Heights Middle School on Tuesday, May 8.
