Lambert Airport Project Brings Changes for Passengers, Drivers | Business

A roadway construction project at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport will force lane closures, detours and alternate pickup locations for passengers at Terminal 1 beginning Monday, April 23. Through late June, the Airport will be resurfacing and waterproofing the 4-lane Arrivals Drive (Lower- Bag Claim).

Starting April 23, only Airport approved shuttles will be able to access the Arrivals Drive because of lane closures. All public motorists picking up passengers from Terminal 1 should follow signs to the Terminal 1 Parking Garage where a temporary pick up area (yellow level) will be located during the construction. During the project, motorists will have a 15 minute free grace period in the Terminal 1 Garage.

Lambert encourages motorists to use the Airport’s free cell phone lots located near each of the terminals on Lambert International Boulevard. Motorists should  wait for arriving passengers until they confirm that they have arrived and are ready for pickup.

In addition to the temporary relocation of the passenger pick up area, the lane closures will also require a repositioning of many pick up zones for Lambert’s ground transportation services: Super Park, GoBest Downtown Shuttle, Terminal Shuttle, Hotel/Motel Shuttles and car rental shuttles.

The south two lanes (closest to parking garage) will be closed in the first phase of the project with all shuttles moved to the curb closest to the terminal exits. Temporary signs will be posted directing passengers to the proper terminal exits to reach the various ground transportation services. Pedestrians will not be allowed to walk across Arrival Drive to reach the parking garage during the construction project. The only access to the parking garage will be via the bag claim level of the terminal through terminal exits 14, 15 and 16.

During Phase II of the project, crews will close the north two lanes (closest to the terminal) and the terminal curbside for construction. At that time, the terminal pick up locations for Super Park, hotel/motels and off-airport parking shuttles will move to the interior island of the roadway. Pedestrians will access the roadway island via the terminal garage. A start date for Phase II of the project will be announced later.
