Normandy High School Students Power Up For Robotics Competition

 

NORMANDY MISSOURI  ( KTVI ) The Normandy High School Robotics team would like to inspire future generations to become excited about science, technology, engineering and math through the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics.

The Normandy  Robotics Team was started in 2003, after the head coach secured a NASA grant. Students at Normandy High School were introduced to FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and the FIRST Robotics Competition. Participating in the FIRST robotics competition provided the students at Normandy High School and experience in the areas of math, science and technology,and allowed them to realize new potential, and excel to new heights.

Ms. Ninfa Matiase Biology teacher secure a NASA Grant. The Normandy High School team currently has 26 active student members and 3 mentors.

The Gentlemen of Vision Rites of Passage Enterprises, Inc. is a community-based program currently servicing 58 males from various school districts within the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. The Gentlemen of Vision has an impeccable 100 percent high school graduation and college admission/retention rate.  As of 2009, every high school senior G.O.V. member has successfully completed high school and has been accepted into a college or university.  In addition to servicing high school members, G.O.V. has extended its services to middle school members termed as Young Men of Vision (Y.M.O.V.), collegiate members termed as Collegiate G.O.V. as well as the GOV/NJROTC Drill Team comprising of GOV high school members  and NJROTC members.

Florissant 6-Year-Old Boy Needs Bone Marrow Transplant

FLORISSANT , MO ( KTVI)- By just looking at him, you can't tell anything is wrong with  6 -year-old Clayton Williams from Florissant .He looks like a normal kid who loves playing. But what you can't see is he has bone marrow failure due to sickle cell anemia. His parents found out after a routine check-up just weeks after Clayton was born.

The young boy is learning to deal with the pain,  the horrible cramps and aches as a result of suffering from sickle cell an. Sickle cell anemia is the most common form of sickle cell disease .  The disease is a serious disorder in which the body makes sickle-shaped red blood cells. “Sickle-shaped” means that the red blood cells are shaped like a crescent. Normal red blood cells are disc-shaped and look like doughnuts without holes in the center. They move easily through your blood vessels. Red blood cells contain an iron-rich protein called hemoglobin.
