Florissant Valley Campus Recognized for Sustainable Efforts

St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley has gone green and has a number of recent recognitions to prove it.

Recently, the college was named as one of 20 colleges and universities in the nation for its commitment to sustainability through the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), according to a press release.

Home Depot to Hire 975 Seasonal Associates in St. Louis Area

Home Depot is now accepting applications for seasonal positions in the St. Louis market. Available positions vary by store.

Seasonal associates will be assigned responsibilities based on their previous retail or home improvement experience and based on the needs of individual stores.

About half of The Home Depot’s seasonal hires transitioned into regular positions with the company last year.

City Council Set to Hear Public Opinion on New Fiscal Year Budget

Hazelwood City Council will convene Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., to discuss city business. Council will meet in its chambers at Hazelwood City Hall.

City manager Edwin Carlstrom will discuss and make recommendations to city council on consideration of purchasing a track loader, which is used for digging and loading material.

Hazelwood’s 2nd Annual “Recycle Day”

The City of Hazelwood is hosting its 2nd annual “Recycle Day” on Saturday, June 2, in the St. Louis Mills parking lot in front of the Ice Zone. Hundreds of local residents are expected to fill up their vehicles with unwanted recyclable items and bring them to the event site where they will be unloaded by vendor volunteers.

Different stations will be set up by the following vendor participants: Allied Waste Services; WITS, Inc. (Web Innovations & Technology Services); The Home Depot; American Kidney Services; and Shred-it.

Former Florissant Mayor's Home Marked as City Landmark

 

The frame house at 549 St. Jacques was built circa 1880 but is best known as the home of Sidney Garrett who lived here in the early years of the 20th century.

Sidney Garrett, son of Silas Garrett, was born at Cross Keys in 1864. He married Catherine Castello, daughter of Mayor Charles Castello, and soon became town marshall for Florissant.

The Florissant City Council approved three requests, two featuring four chickens at each residence and the other to allow for a coop in a residential area, Monday night but that didn’t sit well with one councilor.
