Officials Agree To Make Accommodations For Muslim Women In Jail
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– St. Louis County officials agreed Monday to make accommodations for Muslim women who wear an Islamic headscarf.
The agreement came after the January arrest of a woman who had her headscarf removed at the jail in front of men.
St. Louis County police and jail employees agreed that Muslim women who are arrested will be screened by a female officer in a private area. She would then have her headscarf returned following the screening.
A letter of apology is also being sent to the woman who was arrested in January.
