BackStoppers Donates $50,000 To Wounded Florissant Police Officer

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI)-BackStoppers donated $50,000 to wounded Florissant Police Officer Michael Vernon on Friday. The donation was presented to Officer Vernon at DePaul Hospital where he is being treated.

Officer Vernon, 33, was shot early Monday morning while responding to a burglary call in Florissant.  Vernon’s doctors say he is now permanently paralyzed.  Brian Lamont Cannon Jr. has been charged in the robbery and shooting. Cannon is being held on a $500,000 bond.

A benefit will be held for Officer Vernon Saturday, June 2 from 2-10 p.m. at Joe’s Pub located at 490 St. Francois in Florissant. For more information call 314-276-8290.

The BackStoppers covers 18 counties in Missouri and Illinois and assists the families of police, fire and EMS officers killed in the line of duty and officers suffering catastrophic injuries.
