Man Charged With Assault Of Wellston Police Officer

WELLSTON, MO (KTVI)- A St. Louis man has been charged with assaulting a police officer after a routine traffic stop Thursday.  A Wellston Police Officer stopped Lamont Lloyd, Jr., 24, for failing to use his turn signal near R.M. Moore and Page.  Lloyd, who was driving, got out of the car and confronted the officer with a loaded handgun. The Wellston officer then shot him.

Lloyd was taken to a nearby hospital where he is in stable condition.  Two other passengers in the car were arrested but released.

Lloyd has been charged with Assault in the Second Degree on a Law Enforcement Officer, one count of Armed Criminal Action, and one count of failing to signal when turning. A $50,000 cash only bond has been issued on him.
