Rep. Jill Schupp: MO Lawmakers Lost Major Federal Funding For Healthcare, Jobs

(KTVI) - Schupp said that by not taking action, Missouri lawmakers lost an entire year of 100 percent of federal funding for healthcare to low income Missourians and they lost the state more than 20-thousand jobs.

The 2013 Missouri legislative session has wrapped up and State Representative Jill Schupp (D-Creve Coeur) is reflecting on the last few months and sharing with the St. Louis Jewish Light what she took away from Jefferson City.

Hazelwood City Council Presented $31.4 Million Budget for FY 2014

HAZELWOOD, MO. (KTVI) - No one knows better how hard it is to bounce back from a recession than the City of Hazelwood.

Hazelwood City Manager Edwin Carlstrom presented a $31.4 million budget for 2013-2014 during a public hearing Wednesday evening. Despite the trims and cut corners done by the administration, the city will still have an approximate $692,000 deficit.

Maryland Heights Amends Housing Bill to Include Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Protections

Thursday, May 24th, 2013  (Maryland Heights, MO) – Following a unanimous vote this evening from the Maryland Heights City Council, Maryland Heights approved an amendment to the city’s housing laws. This amendment, which was co-sponsored by Councilwoman Kim Baker and Councilman Ed Dirck, Jr. would protect renters and buyers from being discriminated against because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

In most parts of Missouri, hardworking lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) citizens face the constant reality that they could be fired from their job for being LGBT and be denied access to housing and public accommodations.

Former Missouri Congressman Todd Akin will be in North County this week speaking at the North St. Louis Republican Club's monthly meeting.

He represented Missouri's 2nd Congressional District for more than a decade and was the party's candidate in a run for U.S. Senate against Claire McCaskill last year.

Florissant City Council Mulls Trash Service Contract Extension

Florissant City Council will decide whether to extend its trash service contract Meridian Waste during Monday night’s meeting.

Meridian Waste has provided service to the City of Florissant for the past five years and has proposed a five-year contract extension that would increase customers’ bill in 2017.
