Author Enthralls Students With Personal Story

Author Enthralls Students With Personal Story

The auditorium at Hazelwood East High School was abuzz as students, teachers and administrators gathered to hear Wes Moore, author of “The Other Wes Moore,” share his personal story, and that of another man, also named Wes Moore. Both men are of similar age, grew up in the same city within blocks of each other, lived in single-parent households, yet the decisions and choices made by the men led them to different lives.

The men’s choir, dressed in tuxedos, greeted the audience and Moore with a performance of “The Impossible Dream.” As Moore took the stage, he thanked the choir and praised their talent. Then, he addressed the group of 250 students who were selected by faculty and staff to read his book.

As he spoke, Moore said the students displayed “hope as to what’s right in our community and in society. You are not what we see on late night news. You’re champions and I am humbled to be here.”

McNair Elementary School Trivia Night

McNair Elementary School Trivia Night

McNair Elementary School, in the Hazelwood School District, will sponsor its annual trivia night. The school started this event as a fun way to present to parents what their children learn at school and examples of what the students will be tested on during the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) test.

The children get to be the ones who “know it all” and can teach their parents a few things. The event has been a success each and every year.

McNair staff also wanted to team up parents and children for a free, fun evening. It’s great to see the families enjoying each other and meeting other members in their community.

McNair staff will ask families to donate personal hygiene and household items to the Hazelwood’s Community Response Team or to families within the school who have unexpected needs.
