Former Wellston Student Is Normandy’s Valedictorian

Being at the top of his class is something that Normandy High School senior Tyrice Jenkins has experienced for quite a while.  As a student in the former Wellston School District, Jenkins was the academic frontrunner, maintaining the number one spot as a freshman, sophomore and junior.  However, when the Wellston School District closed and students were assigned to the Normandy School District, Jenkins was not sure if he would maintain his claim as the class’ highest academically ranked student.

“I maintained the strong work ethic I had previously established, continued applying myself and made a commitment to always do my best,” said Jenkins. “I am very proud of what I’ve accomplished and honored to be named valedictorian.”

You Paid For It - St. Louis Community College Building

Officer Accidentally Fires Gun Inside Hazelwood East High School

An investigation is underway after a St. Louis county school resource officer fires his weapon inside a North County high school.

A letter went home to parents in the Hazelwood school district on Wednesday afternoon. The shot was fired at Hazelwood East high school around 11am.

The Hazelwood school district says the officers weapon accidentally discharged in a security room near the school's front office. The bullet shot through the office wall and into an adjacent office where a nurse and two students were sitting. No one was injured.

St. Louis county police say the officer was cleaning his 40 caliber semi automatic department issued handgun when it happened. Why he was cleaning his gun inside the school during school hours is now part of the investigation.

The Hazelwod school district is working with St. Louis county police and say the school resource officer will not return the Hazelwood school district.
