North County Native Signs Contract With St. Louis Rams

Andre Martin, a standout football player at McCluer High School, will sign a contract with the St. Louis Rams, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Martin, A Ferguson-native who starred in three sports while at McCluer (football, basketball and track and field), was just three of 26 open tryout players offered a contract by the Rams, the Post-Dispatch report said.

Hazelwood WWE Hero Randy Orton Returns Home

It will be a homecoming for Hazelwood native WWE® Superstar Randy Orton® when he attends 2013 Wizard World St. Louis Comic Con on Friday, March 22, at America's Center.  Orton will meet fans, sign autographs and pose for photo-ops in a two-hour appearance from 5:30-7:30p.m.

Orton, who earned the distinction of being the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in WWE history, saw his star rise when he won the World Heavyweight Championship at the unprecedented age of 24.

Brown is currently a tight end with the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL. He visited with students and some of his former teachers at Russell Elementary.

Hazelwood West High School inducts New York Yankees Pitcher into Hall of Fame

The Hazelwood West High School athletics department inducted three new members into the Hall of Fame on
Sept. 22. The new class includes Daniel Callahan, class of 1991; Linda (Ferder) Howard, class of 1979 and New York Yankees pitcher, David Phelps, class of 2005.

This marks the second annual Hall of Fame induction for Hazelwood West High. Individuals are honored for
the contributions and recognition the inductees bring to Hazelwood West High and its community. According to
the Hall of Fame committee, Hall of Fame members have laid the foundation and set the standards for current
students to aspire to.

Phelps played baseball for Hazelwood West High from 2002 – 2005. He was also a member of the school’s
basketball team for two years. He then went on to attend Notre Dame University, where he was selected as a
member of the 2007 First Team All Big East, Academic All District baseball team, and the 2008 Third Team
All Big East baseball team.

Hazelwood West Wide Receiver Shines in Global Engineering Internship

Like a lot of his peers, Hazelwood West High School senior Brandon Misher is already working toward the future. But unlike most seniors, Misher is working at a global engineering corporation as an intern this summer.

After going through a rigorous application and interview process, Misher began the internship at Black & Veatch in May. He’s working in the Water division in the Chesterfield office.
