St. Louis Brass Band’s “Holiday Spectacular”

St. Louis Brass Band’s “Holiday Spectacular”

For the 2nd concert of its 2011/2012 concert season, the Saint Louis Brass Band returns to the Florissant Civic Center Theatre for its annual “Holiday Spectacular” concert. Beginning at 2:30 pm on Sunday, December 4th, this concert features holiday favorites, audience sing-a-longs, and perhaps a special visitor for the children.

The concert will highlight four of the dances from Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Nutcracker” including “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies” and “Trepak”. Leroy Anderson’s  Christmas Festival” is one of the most famous instrumental Holiday pieces ever written. Laced with quotes from well-known songs, it takes the familiar and sends it in new directions. A second arrangement by Anderson, “Sleigh Ride”, imagines a fun romp through the snow as the listener is treated to the sound of sleigh bells and the neighing of horses (by way of cornet, of course.)
